Sock Puppet BiodigitalA Poem by sHearScary places
Something blew my mind
Blew it to a hundred fragments Big like a meatshop eruption online I understand the need to escape I do it all the time But understanding the need to pretend? It evades me Anonymity for safety, anonymity for whoring To me the virtual life can get straight up boring But to some it's a life, more real than breathing To some it's an out from their inadequacies It's a shroud and a good one, after all it's a huge galaxy Even farther, the desire to pretend in secret is one thing But the desire to pretend in public seemed appalling It's a huge leap of logic for me, this sock puppet play It's something not black, not white, something not grey I try for a second to understand what causes them To retreat into their biodigital microcosm I can't do it I can't bend at that angle I'm generally excited by the world and it's 8 billion But I could only think "My god, what have we done?" © 2012 sHearAuthor's Note
