The Catch..Or Not?

The Catch..Or Not?

A Poem by Rachael
"

i love softball. no denying it!!

"

The pitch.

The hit.

Sailing through the sky.

Sun in your eye.

Does the ball come through?

Can you make the play?

It begins to descend.

Lower and lower it falls.

Runners tag up on the base.

Is there a chase?

Will you catch the ball?

And finally it comes down.

Into your glove, but no cheering yet.

Will it come out?

Luckily your second hand was there!

The ball stays in the glove, like glue to paper.

That's what it's about!

But the play is not over yet.

Will they score runs?

Is it done?

Runners are running and fielders are fielding.

You throw it in to second.

Too bad the runner has already gone.

The ball goes back to the pitcher.

The play is over.

Like a rehearsed performance.

My 27 year old daughter was a pitcher and a catcher in Little League Baseball through the majors and then switched to softball where she caught for her high school, for travel teams and earned a scholarship to a division One college where she was their catcher for 3 years....so I appreciate your poem.
Now I am watching my little grand daughters play. One of them announced yesterday she wants to go to college and play softball . They are just 7 & 8 so have only been playing for a year.
Good luck with your season.
