Set Asidewalk

Set Asidewalk

A Poem by Zach Colgate
"

Just a little something I thought up . . .

"

like that old sidewalk

across the way

walked on

forgotten

left to expand and contract

from winter nights to summer days

until it is cracked

and worn

        and tired

and eventually

just walked around

like gray-scale pieces

that no longer fit

as they once did

and are left with nothing

but scratched pennies

and chewed gum

sometimes my heart feels

something like that

nice . . . i like the elusive yet "concrete" feel of the poem. (no pun intended.) it's a moment of interiority so hard to put into words.
