Unsung VillainsA Poem by Zach ColgateHere is a poem that I wrote about unjust war. While I no longer completely agree with what I wrote (it was a while back), I do like how it turned out. Enjoy!Boot camp is over. Youve been broken in well. Now youll be right at home in any war-torn hell. Grab your guns. Prepare; this is war! It does not matter whom you are fighting for. They shoot bullets that damage bodies and souls. They use apathy and anger to patch their own holes Put on your boots; lets continue marching on! Onward to glory! To doom! To oblivion! The children keep crying; the corpses distend. Keep fighting! They are all just means to an end. Shell shocked minds and shrapnel ridden skin. What war did you say you lost your soul in? Ulterior motives at the cost of others; Theyre widowing wives and robbing mothers. Enacting unfair revenge for past deeds done, They leave dead bodies to desiccate in the sun. Morbidly gripped by people they kill. They are like children setting fire to an anthill It is finally over. You can go home now. Youve all become heroes, yet you dither to tell how. © 2008 Zach ColgateAuthor's Note
