Youth

Youth

A Poem by Douglas Rose Calhoun

My youth is spent in the bottle.

Stark naked

On the roof.

Redemption and memories in a photo.

A fight on youtube.

My youth is wasted on you.

I'll take my "I love you" back.

And leave you with a "Go to Hell."

My youth is earned by my friends.

Those closest hurt the most.

To lose in one day

A graduation.

But I won't mature.

For this is futile

My youth is eternal.

Spent with the world

And full of joy.

And my youth goes until I die.

And I hope to die young.

My youth isn't yours.

My youth isn't to be delegated.

Too long I spent listening.

Now you can shut the hell up.

My youth wins in the end.

It's been a little crazy.

A little sad

happy

mad.

But all in all it's been worth the while.
