I love you I know

I love you I know

A Poem by Douglas Rose Calhoun

I love you,

I know.

Perhaps I'll consider it best you leave,

before I have to hear "I know" again.

Perhaps maybe it is wrong to respond in that manner,

perhaps it is a sin.

To love and not be loved,

Perhaps they are akin.

The response so cold,

it chills the skin.

I love you,

I know.

And leaves those in tears,

even the toughest of men.

Perhaps I'll consider it best you're gone,

as pain begins to set in.

Perhaps I should've withheld the deadly three,

but you said those two again and again.

I love you,

I know

Or maybe it is as you said,

as now "I know",

and with a keen head,

Those three remain forbidden.

Perhaps gone forever,

or perhaps to to be said again.

Yes some words leave us in silence. "I know" is a phrase after words of love leave you questioning the two words. I like this poem. Your logic is correct in this poem. Love must be returns or we are walking on a dead end street. A outstanding poem.
