Olvidar

Olvidar

A Poem by rmkelley

Olvidar

You are forgotten;

like a mirage wavering before me,

hazy and humid and brief

before finding water,

and blooming into a bush of briars.

I did not misplace you;

you walked away as I did

with chapped lips and a raw nose

and we were satisfied.

And yet, you misplaced me too.

How we felt like Robins in Spring,

Elated if only for the season.

The inexplicable inability

Like atoms to combine

The forgotten primal closeness

Like trees that grow intertwined.

The fear of surrendering free will

To someone else’s emotions.

I do not search for you.

Though like a good song sung…

I miss the feelings not the words

I don’t miss the summer we had

as I approach the Fall.

I miss the sweltering days…

Which I grew tired of.
