Contradictory WorldA Poem by Ryan NicoleWe inhale counter active breathes of the pressures around us, Into our head they go, Scrambling, Dashing, Fluttering, All to places they cannot find, That do not exist. Lost, Because The Bible tells us, No Adam and Adam, Only Adam and Eve, But follows the contradictory theme, That we must love everyone, No matter who they are. Disoriented, Because puritans are narrow minded and rigid, But the sexually promiscuous are obscene, And poisonous, To the minds our culture suggests. Perplexed, Because our parents, Teachers, Leaders, Commanders and bosses, Constantly applaud being a distinct and highlighted self, Yet the moment we decide, To go against the grain of methodical suggestion, It is our parents, Teachers, Leaders, Commanders and bosses, That are first to bash and blister us, For threatening the apparent gentle arms, Holding society together. These contradictory breathes, dart up, Down, Sideways, In our head, Leaving us feeling diagonal, Because these are more than double standards, These are the definitions, Of our personal dictionary. ~ But these contradictory breathes, Are not lousy and poor. A world without curiosity, Unanswerable questions, Argument, Would leave no room, For individuality and personal flavor. It would leave us feeling bland, And plain, Like the majority of the world claims they are not. Society has fallen in love, With our endless contradiction, Our ambition and enterprise. But also prohibits us from it, Scolds us for it, Kills us for it. Which is rather contradictory itself. © 2015 Ryan NicoleAuthor's Note
