i quit jobs like light switches

i quit jobs like light switches

A Poem by Mike Melanson

I quit jobs like
light switches
and dead-bolts, burn bridges
like just one more
(beer)
and I’d  rather say f**k off than
(admit)
I love you
I give it all away
like Louisiana,
get up and go like an indian
summer, and
I’d rather
convince myself against the obvious
than take it as I see it
I run away like
crumpled paper,
don’t like a should
and I’d rather do
at all the wrong times than
commit uncertain suicide
