and nobody ever has club soda

and nobody ever has club soda

A Poem by Mike Melanson

i know, this is all going to come out
wrong, i'll shift my glass from hand to hand,
stuttering, searching for a word, a smile, spilling
and then asking for the best way to remove
(my foot from my mouth) red wine from a white shirt
and, as always, it's club soda
and nobody ever has club soda
