Betrayed

Betrayed

A Poem by Robert Wlaschin

Thank you you sycophants, felons, and manipulators.

Like a w***e you have prostituted your position and your power

Given everything to the pimps of greed, money, and self-service.

Votes have been cast against you but in return is only betrayal by other apples.

Where is the garden of Eden?

With fruits of purity, honor, and faithfulness?

I see them in my neighborhood, my churches, and on my commute.

Their heads are lowered, their hands shackled and backs are bent

Dignitaries of truth and justice we have sent them away to help other's needy

We are helpless to help our own.

Our children have been stolen by those who have you in their pocket.

In vans, on the street corner, in dark places they look to you.

Where are their champions, rescuers, and saviors?

They cry out for your help but the sly hand in your pocket is already greased.

Into your palm flows wealth and out of it despair; crippling the poor with your gifts

Hospitalized on welfare, on unemployment, and on disability

The pulse of enablement has gotten weak and we are dying to entitlement

We do not teach them pride, compassion, or dignity

Who is able to help them?  Who can break the cycle?

Our hearts writhe from the oppression of our individuality

We race to learn to be standardized

We are purebred stallions mixed in with the mules

Pulling the wagon of depression, bearing the yoke of the impoverished

We add our cents and the rub away into nothing

Empower us!  Give use the tools to fight for ourselves

Arm us with hope and train us with knowledge

Release us with a challenge

We want to be strong.  We are America.

Help us to take back our nation of hope.

Restore our faith in you
