Miraculum

Miraculum

A Poem by Ricky Whitefield
"

The reality that we are alive requires no further commentary. It is a fact that supports, explains, inspires, excites on its own accord. Let us all marvel at such a blessing.

"

All eyes are fixed on the stars.

Something greater stands beyond.

The symbol of aspiration, our perfect dream.

Our names, you and I, are etched forever

in some chamber of secrets, gloriously shrouded in mystery.  For now.

Our love indelibly marked, imprinted, embellished.

We bear the ultimate stamp of purpose, meaning, value, beauty, love, truth.

The greatest quest upon which humankind will embark:

the search for The Fashioner, The Begetter, The Creator.

He suspends the stars in the heavens.

He alone elicits the lunge in our hearts toward meaning.

Ultimate truth.  Imago Dei.

We are here. We are alive. Cogito ergo sum.

Such a reality stuns the world to silence.

In the teeth of these stupefying odds, it is you and I who are here!

We crossed the finish line first.

We won the cosmic lottery of birth.

We, we, we,

we have achieved the supreme.

We are honoured guests to the greatest celebration in the universe;

stars our dancing lights, meteor showers our fireworks, joy our greatest source of inebriation.

The potentiality for life outnumbers the sand grains of Sahara

yet you and I are awe-strikingly alive.

Will we dance on the wings of eternity? Will we climb the loftiest peaks of knowledge?

We can, we will, we must.

Endowed with the greatest gift: the capacity for love.

In one boundless energy of friendship, we stand shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand.

This is our great adventure.

Our chance to shape the world, to fashion a more glorious existence.

We are granted one chance to truly comprehend,

to understand why our eyes are open,

in the short time before they close forever.

Vita est miraculum! Life is the greatest miracle!
