WORKING WITH THE ELEMENTS

WORKING WITH THE ELEMENTS

A Poem by rutherford

Night and awake in bed
I hear voices outside
Voices of 14 years-olds
The same voices that belonged to me thirty years ago

The time when you never feel
so carefree, so cool, so immortal
Everything in life before you
And you barely recognize this

The 14 year-olds fill their senses
with deep hues of the northern latitudes
and the energy and ozone of the big lake.

I can’t go outside and join them
it's not my time
but hearing voices and waves
is the nearest thing to constructing a time machine

I see myself at a bon fire on the beach
maybe I’m flirting with a girl
under the same constellations
absorbing the same light and water

My daughter is out there
in the darkness
The elements firmly embedded in her.

Great stuff, beautiful nostalgia I could really feel this

The passing on, of the torch of youth.
Luckily, the recipients, our children
Let us warm our hearts by its glow

This one touched me.

100 flickering torches
