BEAUTY SUBSTITUTIONS

BEAUTY SUBSTITUTIONS

A Poem by rutherford

When you can't find beauty
from the train window
in the passing scenery

of derelict buildings

with black eyes

on a slate gray February evening.

Do you find you can
make beauty substitutions?

The rusting steel of
a northern New Jersey salvage yard
by twilight
never looked better.

The rusting steel of
a northern new Jersey salvage yard
by twilight
never looked better.

I remember thinking the iron of the Eiffel Tower looked like lace.

Thanks Pride. Stimulous from riding the train last night from NYC to WDC.
finding beauty in even the dankest and darkest of settings...

this brings me back to jersey and visits to my cousin...there is something about old railroad yards and salvage yards...and old factory buildings with the windows smashed out...it is about the life that was once there.

i wonder if we can substitute for our mars and scarring---but do we really want to...those lines on our face add character...and sometimes never looked better because we have experienced real life.

even with our "black eyes"!

Thanks Jacob. Was riding the train this evening from NYC to WDC and this came to mind.
