LEFT BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD

LEFT BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD

A Poem by rutherford

Two of Three Road Poems

"
That uncertain hitch hiker
a Hispanic family changing a flat
shredded truck tires like dark angry reptiles
burnt stubs of warning flares.

Your past
throttle up
you can put more distance
behind you.

not sure if i am reading it "Your past" or "You're past" but either way seems to fit...

thei hitchhiker, the shredded tires, the family fixing the flat...all could mean danger, uncertainty to trust...and in life we extend the metaphor to the reality of feeling that way.
so we want to distance ourselves from certain dangers, but also from our past if it is filled with bad decisions and situations.
