NEW SHAKESPEARE

NEW SHAKESPEARE

A Poem by rutherford
"

More on our relationship with the digital world.

"

There go
those computers

and that internet
again
.

Like Shakespeare

shaping the King’s English:
     --band-width

     --brain dump

     --Google it

     --networking while multi-tasking.

Oh yes,

resist

but how can you
control
language
when you can see
futility of French language police

We could

take it off line

unplug
off the grid.

But even then

digital bard
is programing
our tongue.

My brother and I have an ongoing conversation about how language is a living, growing and ever-changing entity. We share archaic words and new dictionary entries alike, and discuss why and where and when words have come in or gone out... This poem says it so well - I may just have to share this with him!

Thanks for reading it. Hope it contributes to your conversation with your brother.
There is so much truth to your "hashtag" words my literate friend. I took a huge gigabite out of this one. Your friend in words, Pete

Just how would a Shakespearian play sound if it was filled with Google Jive? I wonder how Shakespeare would react to our Internet if he returned from his Nether World. Language is a growing evolving entity who may or may not morph into a goggle-eyed monster as time goes by.

Words fascinate me. I'm always reading the dictionary. Remember when typo and snafu were new words back in the seventies.
