Lone Wolf

Lone Wolf

A Poem by Ruth

I was walking through a loud forest
Full of life but somehow empty
And at one moment I heard a quiet howl
The sound I was longing to find
My nature forced me to follow it
And on the highest ground I saw him
Alone though surrounded by others
A lone wolf I have never met before
Looking through the past and the future
Living completely in the present
His eyes were searching for something
For his ray of sun at midnight
Because he was the red moon
Longing for fresh meat
Wanting to bite his prey and to own it
To have someone to eat and to love
Someone to carry his burden of loneliness
Someone to wash his sins and keep them as relics
Someone who would completely give in
And let him scratch his nails into them
Because that's his perception of love
But the wolf knew so well
How risky it is to love him
And so he accepts solitude for himself
Not wanting to kill his prey
Letting it go
And so he continues to howl at midnight
Not wanting to live during the day
But there's still little hope
Maybe one day
Someone will be
Able to fall
For the wolf
---
But I guess it's not me

Sounds like a little story. I like the wolf image. I also like the development of it, though it reads rather sad by the end.
