Empty nest syndrome

Empty nest syndrome

A Poem by Bewitching Sensations
"

My four children are grown up and gone... the house screeches with emptiness

"

One cup and one spoon
Lay forlorn in the bowl.
While i gaze out of the glass.
Time 'n' remorse created a link.

Silence surrounds me,
The nest is now empty.
My children now flown
They've all left the city.

As i watch the kids playing
Laughter and life and fun
I recollect the memories
Where have my children gone?

Aimlessly i wander in a daze,
Through the empty rooms.
Once full of chatter and clutter,
Nursery rhymes and tunes.

My knowledge now a waste,
All i hear is echoes of footsteps,
In every room of the house.
Now silence i must except!

As a mother bird without her babies,
I'm flightless,flying aimless.
No longer able to nurture and care,
I shed tears, totally shameless.

A very nice poem. All my kids have got old and brought grand kids to me so I can still entertain them. I like the story in the poem. Good to leave the door for your kids. They will bring new babies home for you to have fun with. Thank you for the excellent poem.

Thank you for your km and words x
Very introspective. It's sad what happens to people when a chapter of their life ends; something that I feel when I read this piece. This has courage. Thank you for sharing

Thankyou so much for reading my poem :)
Another very perceptive piece that can only have been written by someone who has quite clearly experienced it.

Although this piece is more rhythmic and reflective, and less heavy with obvious emotion, the final stanza is highly thought-provoking of feelings that are - in my experience - virtually unique to mothers. I know my own ex-wife went through similar pain when my Son went off to Uni a few months after my daughter had moved out.

I like this poem a lot.

yes lovely.... when they come to visit i feel complete :)))))
thank you so much for sharing this poem.
as a daughter, it means a lot to me and serves as a good reminder to me of the role I have and my duty towards my parents who have raised me. It is a shame that you feel so empty in your own home, but your children always cherish you no matter where they are, or what they're doing.
thank you, and indeed, the picture is very cute as well.

LOl.. made me giggle when i saw the photo.. :)
This is as emotive as a poem can get .. esp this line: 'Where have my children gone?' There is so much of real life in that line. Life can be tremendously sad. There we are 27, busy, 37, busy, married couple of kids, then they are grown up and one day we are stunned to discover we are not to busy anymore and we get to thinking .. where did they go? and where did time go? how did it pass so fast? how did we arrive where we are? and what next? Of course, this is how it has to be, it is normal, but god is it hard to accept that we are plain older. You capture this sense of loss perfectly.

Im with you on that.. time is precious with our children.. before they leave the nest.. enjoy...
From time to time, fathers are also overcome with this sort of melancholia.
Precious memories of warmly interacting with your children--memories often going back many years--seem like only yesterday; harshly demonstrating the all-too-swift passage of time, those, now painfully obvious, lost opportunities.
Very fine work, Sensation.
