Drawn Quiet

Drawn Quiet

A Poem by Rusty

Kind words echo in empty halls
Witness to it all
Bare and brave
Lonely knave

Simple simplicity
Future so near
Impatient in waiting
Scoffing at fear

Stiff resolution
Continued rebuff
Flexing my muscles
Acting so tough

Behind my demeanor
I've hidden the fear
I dare not confide
Not instead I draw near

So many illusions
The shadows play dice
My loves laid as bets
Gambling with what's not mine

In the evening quiet
I look hard to see
The only one playing
The shadows and me

In full battle armor
I rise to me feet
Consider the darkness
Refusing defeat

The clang of my metal
Echos the night
Draw fast my rapier
Slaying the night

I am not astonished
When morning I see
All has drawn quiet
Love has left me

''The shadows play dice'' - I love that, I can see it now, in my mind's eye. I suppose it is a downbeat ending (which I am always fond of) and yet, at the same time I felt a sort of philosophical exceptance of it. Thanks!
