As I write

As I write

A Poem by Rusty

As I write
Someone starves
As I write
Someone kills
As I write
As I write
Someone's lover dies
As I write
Someone goes hungry to feed a child
As I write
As I write
Someone dies from a curable disease
As I write
Someone needs a kidney
As I write
As I write
Someone is stealing bread
As I write
Someone loses the hand that stole
As I write
As I write
A young girl is being sold
As I write
I think of the luxury I have
To contemplate these things and write

Sweet poem. I like it =))

it is a tenuous contact with the outside world you speak of, a whorl only partly finished. the idea that the world goes on despite you.

i'm not sure that it could literally mean you are thinking of these things while writing. inspiration dulls after only a moment's exposure, such interference would surely be fatal!

regardless a strong singular write :)

Well done, it certainly gives food for thought, great work :D

this humbles me--I have never thought of the world existing outside of my own mind while writing.

So very often we get so caught up in ourselves that we forget that at this very second atrocities are being preformed all around us as we safely write them into our sharing consciousness.

It's delightful to read something purely grateful at the end there. The beginning was saddening, sort of brutal, hard to think about. Your ideas are solid. Write more. :)

. you are right, dear poet ... truer words cannot be etched ... till some months ago, i was in this horrible place in my head ... in which i would oscillate interminably ... wondering if my words have any power at all to participate in any sort of social change ... i was simply unable to tolerate the world around me without having some way of doing my bit by trying my best ... the universe answered by prayers ... i found a blog on the internet ... that is read by almost 2000 people every day ... where my words are needed ... and trying to fulfill that need has made me a more fulfilled human being ... i am able to sleep at night ... knowing that each day ... i try my best ... to participate in a social transformation that'll ultimately bring about poetic justice ... it's a rare opportunity ... and i embrace it with all my heart ... each and every day ...
