Sullied Soul

 

I would give anything

To lay my sullied soul upon your lap

To let my tears stain your dress

To fall asleep and nap

To taste your sultry breath

To feel your hand upon my cheek

So this weary heart could rest

To hear your heart felt laugh

To find a way to break

To be with you quite safe

 

I would give anything

To make it all just stop

Clean it with a mop

This sullied soul

My first thought was ... crap... I clicked on poetry... I hate poetry... But since i'm a songwrter I thought I'd give it a go... Liked it all the way through. We're such softies... us men! You told the simple truth and it rhymes!

i appreciate the first line repeated over all four stanzas. the rhyme, meter, rhythm, and tone of the piece do well to indicate the message of the speaker, and the talent of the writer. i also appreciate how the title is pulled off the last line, as if one completes the circle and closes the dissonance of the other. nice work.
