Ballons fell like snow

Balloons fell around us like snow from the sky

We wondered why

Dynamite Walls held in the sun

We were on the run

 

We very nearly died the afternoon before

Standing in the market nowhere to turn

We found it again a moment to spare

No way to end what we did start

 

But the morning that the balloons did fly

The night before all we did was drive

Chasing the shadows of the night from the day before

Though we tried to deny it we knew the score

 

 

 

I sent you up north alone with a fist

Clutching the flowers… a parting gift

The yellow dewed tulips look so lovely encased

The picture a monument to a moment I should not have let waste

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We drove up the mountain and played like movi es at Jerome

I think it too difficult to think of back home

I don’t really remember the night after that

Love’s squandered lost moments are often like that

 

We walked through the forest where wild flowers clung to cliffs like vines

What I wouldn’t give to be back at those times

Like being mad at the tundra for turning in season

Mad that time moves is really the reason

 

 

 

 

 

 

When I pulled back the curtain in that seedy motel

Shouting look look I pointed at Balloons as they fell

Emotions fell about us like snow or like dust

But these memories don’t tarnish whither or rust

 

I hope you can hold them dearly

I’m certain you do

I cannot look at balloons without thinking of you

So imagine my feeling as I woke up today

 

A balloon in my window…

   and you’ve gone away
