Desolation RainbowA Poem by Rusty
Desolation rainbow
Found Not empty Slight music of chattel singing Skidding in dust across the bottom The vessel Pored out and lovingly cleansed Ready To be filled The potion Contrived and failed Each one after the other Impure The accident Spilled Vile Contents to the cauldron Accidental concoction Fire erupts in the pot All is consumed The smolder Smoke Blinds the eyes Burnt hands reaching, clawing Reaching grasping Residue Eyes blinded and fingers singed Return to the pot Cooling The heart Slowly continues it march toward death Everything waits there The gait slows Grip All now extinguished The alchemist forging gold has no recipe But in that moment a golden heart from lead Hunger Consumes itself Snakes swallowing their own tails Oblivion Time Golden heart fading to lead Not returning Failing to dust Found at the end of the rainbow Not empty Slight music of chattel singing Skidding in dust across the bottom Wide eyed wonder The desert treasure is cleansed once more. © 2014 Rusty |
