MeritA Poem by James O'Rourkethoughts...Perhaps it was at that very moment In a circle of friends and colleagues Just drunk enough At a time good enough You decided to throw caution over your shoulder Just a simple comment That caused my tongue to tumble Battering in vain against the back of my teeth And all that could be heard Was the awkward laugh trapped in my throat Maybe all those faux invitations to coffee Somehow became a possible reality And all I can think is that I hate the stuff I'll never enjoy hot bean water But I'll drink it with you How glad I was when you decided you were good enough To take a chance on one who may not enjoy coffee But whom the sun shines just as brightly As it does on you And hopes that it does on all others When we are sitting across from each other At a café surrounded by strangers You with coffee and I with (possibly) one as well We will exclaim about each others merits As to the very reason we came to this outcome © 2015 James O'RourkeAuthor's Note
