A Letter to No OneA Story by Runo N. SavelAn experiment in fictional letter writing. This letter is written to the one who will never want these words spoken to them by me. It is, thus, a letter to no one.
Dear Comrade,
I have not forgotten the first time I saw you. Nothing about that day was peculiar, from what I can recall. The one thing I remember is you. I remember not really paying much attention, but that you seemed an ordinary man. Soon I realized just how wrong I was. I learned what your heart could do. I learned how kind-hearted you are. I learned how much love you have to give to the man lucky enough to receive it. I quickly learned how much I want to be that man. Time has passed. I am still not that man. My desire has not died, though. Merely looking into your eyes can calm my soul, until your eyes see mine. Then I freeze. Then all I can think of is how much I long to be with you. I think of a fictitious future where you and I are together. We have a home. We have children. We have jobs. We have a love unending. We have our future together. We have the moments that every couple dreams of having. Our kids grow up, our hairs turn grey, our bodies grow weak. Our love holds strong. We have the moments we fear. Our parents grow old and pass away, we have our arguments, we have financial troubles. But our love holds strong. Then comes the time for death to part us. We are not afraid, for our life of unstopping love has kept us alive. Our love does not end when our hearts cease to beat. We know not what happens beyond the grave, but our love will be everlasting. I dream of a future where this is a reality. But this is a dream that his life will never know. Yet my heart will beat for you, though your heart beats not for me.
With the deepest love,
