Looking at someone, love at first sight, flirting

I glance over seeing you there

not looking but openly open

and my seeing you becomes

an invitation to flirt,

an act of bravery,

to take a risk

at being rebuffed

in fear of further hurts.

 

I will not take it personally

if you are scared to take that

gesture as it is meant to be,

an invitation to be admired,

to be esteemed,

to be enjoyed

the succulent reverence

of a kiss

in the mind

where nothing

has ever happened

but all the lessons

that you have ever known

are attached not to pain

but to the pathway

that led you to this moment

where you will look

knowingly into my eyes

as I stare back

and we can know

that we were meant to be.
