No One Wins

No One Wins

A Poem by Runa Pigden
"

thoughts on the state of the modern world

"

One man thinks he should rule as king,

To own the land and ev’rything.

He starts a war to fill his greed

And leaves his people in great need.

Mine, all mine.

Mine, all mine.

No one gets out feeling fine.

A religious man desires all hearts

To love his god; he does his part

To force others to think his way

And in the end, hate rules the day.

Mine, all mine,

Mine, all mine.

No one gets out feeling fine.

Businessman wants to sell his wares

His friends and family get their shares

To reap rewards, he knows he must

Abuse the workers’ and clients’ trust.

Mine, all mine.

Mine, all mine.

No one gets out feeling fine.

Politician must have his day;

So false promises he will say.

To lobbyists, he gives his word;

And treats the press as if absurd.

Mine, all mine.

Mine, all mine.

No one gets out feeling fine.

Love of money and of power

Too often seem to win the hour.

But common man is quick to give

Everything away just to live.

Mine, just mine.

Mine, just mine.

No one wins and that’s just fine.
