First Day

First Day

A Chapter by ruefina

There I am in the backseat of a black limo, which belonged to me, that matches my jeans color. That’s me in my one of a kind outfits made by Sue Elston (in Paris, working in one of Rosia malls.) I’m also wearing one of a kind glasses and jewelry made by my mom, who is a fashion designer and don’t forget my one of a kind blue one strap book bag. I remember all this about me except one thing. It’s coming from my face. I haven’t seen it these past 2 days. It looks like a frown but it’s not, because it’s saying “if you get in my way you’re going down”

Oh I remember now, I’m a changer. I have mix feelings, action, and emotion (also known as being bipolar). Today or school year I’m “mean”. As soon as I step out it’ll start, but when I did I saw something that made me want to forget it and just be me but I looked away. No it wasn’t a friend from one of my old school, because my friends were either black or mixed never plain white (not races). It was a white boy, very cute with the quick look I had it looked like he had brown curly hair, gray eye (I think), and had the whitest teeth, and cutest smile (yea he smiled at me).

I just kept walking in the direction of the school keeping my head high and avoiding his face, but I just couldn’t help it. So I peeked but at the wrong moment, he was staring at me full on and I accidentally caught his eye. And I was wrong he had light, almost clear, blue eyes and I find myself not walking but staring.

Okay, I know it’s weird staring at someone for a long time and it’s weirder that the person staring back at you. But it was awesome and a smile almost crept to my lips but a brown headed chick ruined it by coming over to him, who turned to look at her. Then they hugged I was disgusted by them and that got my meanest to 100. I turned and walked into the school to the main office. It was easy to find because of the sign and arrows everywhere.

When I got there, there was an old lady with short hair who wore thin round glasses that made her face look rounder. She was behind a long brown desk.

“I need my schedule. Now!” I yelled at her.

“Excuse me who are you talking to like that?” She asked not even bothering to look my way.

“Umyou. There’s nobody else here.” I snapped.

“You better watch that attitude before you get suspended your first day.” She finally looked up at me. Her eyes were the darkest navy blue I ever seen, so it was like black with peeks of dark blue. But I tried not to pay attention to that.

“It’ll be better than staying here.”

“What’s your name?’ She said dropping the subject.

“I’m the daughter of the person who bought this school. Figure it out.”

“Oh the famous miss Dixon.” She said pulling out a beige color folder. She then pulled out a schedule, and locker number out of that. I snatched it out her hand, and left without saying anything.

I walked through the hallway, which was getting filled with students. It was like being back in slavery, where were the black people. Suddenly somebody wrapped their arms around my waist.

“Hey newbie, whatcha doing?” I had the urge to unwrap myself, but then thought don’t mean girls have boyfriends. So since I can’t have the dude from before I’ll have him. I turned to face him, he had black straight soft-looking hair with dark brown eyes and he wore a football jacket (a jock boyfriend even better).

"You want to know what I’m doing or what I’m about to do?” I ask he didn’t have time to answer because my lips were touching his. People started staring I knew because my eyes were open while his was closed.

This lasted until the hall was completely empty except for us. He pulled away.

“I really have to get to class. I don’t mean I don’t want to complete this.”

“Then ditch, you seem like the ditching type.”

“I am but I really need to pass this class to stay on the team, so see you later.” He said walking away.

Yea, wait, what’s your name?”

“Trey, yours?”

“Lisa.”  He turned and smiled before turning the corner.

I walked to biology- people say that science and biology is two different things, and that is why they’re on my most likely to get raped and think its sex list. I walked in and spotted the teacher, who doesn’t deserve to be here but on a male magazine.

“Lisa Dixon, I’m glad you decided to join us.”

Yea don’t be that glad, I won’t be here long.” I reply angrily walking up the stairs. The class room was big, had long gray desks on each row that lead up. I walked up to the third row were this girl was sitting by this cute boy.

“You’re in my chair.” I proclaimed to her.

“I don’t see your name on it.” She declared not looking up to me. What is wrong with people today? Look at me when you’re talking to me.

Well my name is written everywhere in this school, you know why…” I paused and bend down to her ear and whispered. “because I own it”

At that she popped up and moved to the row behind us, I sat.

“Hey.” I said to the dude next to me.

“Hi?” He said confused. Then man started teaching. It was all bull to me. After about 5 minutes I jumped up.

Yea, this is boring.” I said walking down the rows, everyone stayed quiet and stared. I walked out. I followed the signs that lead to the bathroom. I went in, looked in the mirror, and came out but not at the right moment because I hit into something brutally.

“Watch where you’re going!” I bellowed.

“You’re the one coming out of nowhere!” A dude voice shouted back. Okay I don’t know if our heads came up at the same time because my head wasn’t up waiting for his. But our eyes meet and I knew those eyes from anywhere. We stared for two second.

“Um….sorry.” I apologized walking past him. I looked back and he was still starring. I floated back to class on a cloud.

When I came in, everyone looked like they were expecting me to say something mean. But I just smiled and walked/floated to my seat. I zoomed out in all of classes except for lunch, which was before my last period.

“Want to sit with me and my friends?” A breath stung my neck. I turn to find Trey standing there with white dudes taller then me. I shrugged.

“Sure.”

We walked to the table in the middle where cheerleaders were already sitting, I assume because they were in gold and blue cheerleading uniforms.

“Hey guys. Who’s that?” A red headed cheerleader asked.

“Lisa Dixon, she owns the school.” Trey said proudly. I gave a smile.

“This means party here always, like since I’m new we need a welcome party how about in the gym, after school today?” I asked. The all nodded in agreement. I got top of the tables, which there were no pieces of food visible, I guess cheerleader equal starve yourself. “Hey people, I’m having a party in the gym after schools all are invited. And bring snacks, no alcohol. I do have security.”

I got down and sat, while everyone busted into applause and cheers.

“You’re already popular and this is your first day… and I don’t think you’ll want the twins at your party.” He said. I looked at him confused. He then pointed to a table where the boy who keeps staring at me and a brown headed girl sat. They do look like twins from this angle.” It’s his first week at this school and his sister been here, and now she has to stop her life to help him get friends.”

“You seem sorry for her.” I noticed.

Well I was planning on asking her out until he came and ruined it.” He whispered solemnly, I looked shocked.

“Does “she” and “he” have names?”

Yea Drew and Mia. Well Mia and Drew.”

“I’ll be back.” I got up and walked over to their table. Mia looked shock to see me.

“Hey. I just wanted to give you a personal invite. Hope you can make it.” I said the last part mostly talking to Drew, who did not even look up at me once. Mia nodded and smiled.

“So see you there?” I said a little disappointed that this dude who been eyeing me from the longest did not even look up to see that my eyes are sparkling cause of his presence.

Yea um...I didn’t get your name.”

“It’s Lisa.” I said still staring at him hoping he heard my name.

“I’m Mia and this is Drew.” She said. Mia elbow Drew on the side and nodded toward me. He just stared.

“Hi.” He finally said, I think, it was so low I don't know, and then went back to staring at his hands, which he was doing when I came over here.

“Sit down.” Mia urged me. But drew looked over to her like “there were going to problems.”

“I can’t I have to get back to my friend.” I assure pointing at Trey, who was staring at me.

“We’ll see you at my party.” I said walking back to the middle table. I turn back to them. Mia was yelling at Drew but he kept his head down. He then looked up to meet my gaze, I gave him a smile. I expected him to do nothing but he gave a cute charming smile, like the one he gave me the first time I saw him.

I would have starred longer, but Trey came up to me.

“Lunch is almost finished. What do you have next?”

“Um... I think gym...Yea gym.” I answered.

“Cool, I have gym also, I’ll walk you.” He said wrapping his arm around my waist.

We walked in silence for a few minutes, the gym is a little far from the cafe.

“So what’s gym like?” I finally asked to break the ice.

Well it’s not like another gym. We don’t do sports, exercises, or anything like that. We just dance, like right now we are doing salsa.” He explained. “And I already have a partner, and so does everyone else except ‘Drew’ and that’s because he came late too.”       I just nodded, but I don’t think he noticed.

“So who’s the teacher?” I asked.

“It’s Mrs. Skule but she’s not here today so we have the meanest sub ever, Ms. Luar.” He answered. I smiled for two reasons, one I realized that Drew “hi” was adorable and, two, I can get Ms. Laur back for being mean.

Trey notices me smiling.

“What?” He asked

“Nothing.”

“Tell me. Come on.” He pushed the gym door open. I made something up quickly.

“It’s just that you’re adorable when you smile.” I then realize it wasn’t a lie.

“Thanks.” He said smiling, not on purpose I think.

“Follow my lead.” I said realizing that Trey was still holding the door open.

I walked in first. I heard Ms. Laur yelling at the two students sitting on the bleacher.

“Ms. Laur, sit on your knees.”

“What?” She commented in a kind of deep voice.

“What! Are you talking to Lisa Dixon, the person who owns this school and could fire you any time, like that?” Trey said getting into it.

“So sit.” I said again, she slowly sat on her knees one at a time. “ Now bark.” She did but you could hardly hear it.

“Come on, don’t be a hot dog, louder.” Trey said really liking this. She did, while kids snickered. I walked past her but patted her head and said:

“Good doggie.”

“Okay class, since Ms. Laur is a dog, I’ll be teaching you so partner up.” I said while looking for Drew, I finally spotted him sitting on the far bleacher. I walked over to him, while everyone scatter around looking for their partner.

“I need a partner, can you be mine.” I don’t plan it but my voice is sweet when I’m around him. He just shrugs, not looking up at me once. I don’t know why, but I grabbed his hand and since my hand was already touching his I couldn’t pull back. So I ended up pulling him up and sort of half drag him to the front of everyone.

“Attention, who likes doing salsa?” I asked and one person raised their hand in the back. “So nobody then. Okay idk if any of you listen to hip hop or rap, because we are doing hip hop dancing now. So first boys you don’t do anything, girls are the most important part.” I tossing Ms. Laur my iPod. “Put the third song on.”

The room filled with fast beats, and loud bass.

“I took hip hop lessons as a kid so let’s start at rolling your hips.” I enlighten and stepping in front of Drew. “To do this you move your hips to the left, to the back, to the right, then the front. Make sure you do it slowly.” I showed them how it should look like when you put it together.

“And guys to help, put your hands on the sides of their hips and push them to the left, back, right, and front.” I put Drew hands on my waist and started moving.”You’re doing good... um…. girl with the purple flats.”

“Gracie.” I heard a sharp deep voice from behind me, I turned.

“Stop the music, stop the dancing!” I exclaimed everything stopped.”Are you finally talking to me?”

He stopped dead not looking at me or saying anything.

“Kidding play the music, keep dancing.” I order and everything started up again. “So why didn’t you say anything when I came over at lunch?”

“I’m deaf, and I can only hear things when I’m looking at the person lips.” He explained getting quiet.

“Really?” I asked shocked.

“No.” He answered laughing.”You totally fell for it.”

“Ha... I only did because it would have explained why you kept staring at me, and why you didn’t hear me open the bathroom door and walk out.” I justify.

“Then how did I answer your screaming comment when you said.”Watch where you’re going!” He mentioned. Then I realized he didn’t explain the staring, which I hope was cause he liked me.

“Wait, what about the staring?” I asked nervously. Drew got nervous.

“Oh look the bell’s about to ring. See you at the party.” He said running for the door.

“Wait! Drew!” I yelled then sighed.
