a letter to one I love

dear grandpa,

it’s me. you may not have known me well in your later life, but i knew you. from all the stories i had heard, my favorite were always the ones with my sister. how she had banged her head on the door and bled, yet you took her out to get ice cream and it was better. how you played with her in the backyard when everyone else was at work. how you went on afternoon walks and she joined. was i too late to be born? why did you have to go so quickly? i didn’t even realize i had cared this much. perhaps, this was my fault?
