Everything, Yet NothingA Poem by Ruby of the MountainsA poem I wrote for a test at school. I got the highest score in our grading system. I believe it is the best I have ever written, and I have enough confidence to share this to the world.I can hear it.
The faint chirping of the crickets The gentle song of the evening birds And the soft trickling of the running brook.
I can smell it.
The fresh scent of grass, leaves, and bark The lingering smell of deer and mice And the air, the earth, the water, everything around me.
I can feel it.
The wind rushing past my ears The ticling of the grass beneath my feet And the cold sting of the water as I raced past.
I can see it.
The trees whizzing by, thinning out The grassy meadow stretching out before my eyes And the sky, stars twinkling in the blanket of blue.
I can taste it.
The minty freshness of grass The warmth of the earth And the nothingness, yet the fizzing as if I could taste the stars.
Yet out of nowhere In the land of endless serenity and peace A loud bang echoed.
It was as if time stood still The sky blurring, the stars dimming, before my eyes Until finally, the world slipped into darkness.
Far, far away, a mournful howl called beneath the moon But only the wind whispered back.
