Animal CrueltyA Poem by Ruby of the MountainsAnother poem a wrote, but not in class. It's about animal cruelty, as you can see by the title. It includes how livestock are slaughtered (a bit of it, though), how dogs are abused, and poachers. The dull, beady eyes Shadowed with hunger and fright Protesting livestock shoved in biting cages The streaking red Cuts and wounds lining their body Wire digging into their flesh The mournful howl Crimson splattering across the concrete floor The horror of another tragedy The frightened, pleading eyes Scrambling feet, tail between his legs Begging for mercy The crack of metal on bone The shriek of pain A dull thud on the ground The rustling in the bushes The hurry to escape The pounding heart, the panicking mind A bang echoing in the still forest The leaves of a nearby tree trembling A shocked, painful cry The thump of a fallen body Scarlet trickling onto the dirt Dulling eyes, glued wide open with horror Stop animal cruelty! We are their voice. Remember, we can make a difference. © 2010 Ruby of the MountainsAuthor's Note
