What is addiction? I believe, if I am not wrong, it is normally described as being dependant on something so much that the person can't live without it. If it is described that way, does that mean that we are all addicted to air? When is it an addiction and when is it a necessity? What is the difference? How do one tell when an addiction crosses over to a necessity?
Addiction to alcohol, drugs, love, pain, etc... We use the word "addiction" so easily, condemning a person with the label "addict". How would it be like if another life form came and said that we, humans, that are addicted to oxygen I can already see what we humans would say, "That's absurd", "We can't live without it! Therefore it's a necessity"... or at least words to that effect.
What is one person's addiction maybe another's necessity. Like in the example, it seems that we "normal" people are a different species as to those "addicts". Not understanding why they do what they do, why they need it, etc. Again I would pose this question. What is the difference between necessity and addiction? Is it as clear cut as we made it out to be?
Disclaimer: I do not condone addictions or usage of substances without reason but I am trying to promote understanding and acceptance of self and others
