Failed Again

Failed Again

Standing in the middle of the room

With eyes close, hope against hope

that when the eyes open. Something,

everything would be different

Looking back with his mind,

to the moment things change

Wishing for an empty moment,

to change that moment, maybe

the outcome would have been different

“Maybe if I wished hard enough,

things would be different when I open my eyes”

Of course, when he opened his eyes

…nothing has changed

No amount of wishing could undo the past

Still standing in a middle of a lonely,

silent room…in the middle of the battlefield

A reflection of the chaos in his mind and heart

still scattered, the remains of the battle

Clothes all over the floor, like spilt guts

“That favourite red skirt of hers look…

so much like blood. Ironic she left that behind”

Spilt guts and tears, words of anger and hate

when all that was wanted was love, hugs and kisses

Too late now, she walked out at the last fight

…in a hurry might I add with no where to go

But plenty of places to hide

So much verbal ammo shot, coated with venom

of hate, of lies, of truth… anything that can hurt

“I wanted to hurt her so much, to see her cry.

To shake her to her senses. Her tears so sweet”

A short victory, now he stands all alone

a bitter victor at a war he never wanted

Staring at the bottles, with spilt innards of pills

taunting him to take them. Like caught in a spell,

step by step he find himself drawn…

then pill by pill disappeared

“Maybe tomorrow I would answer its siren call

but now, the only siren is HER”

Back into the bottle the pills go… Out of sight,

out of mind. Little does he know, he is already

getting back to the normalcy he thought…

Forever out of reach to him

"Maybe tomorrow I would answer its siren call
but now, the only siren is HER" - I loved this one. Often we do face nerve cracking moments like this and its very hard to describe that feel, but here you have done that beautifully!
Great piece of writing :)

Hello Ruby, its been a while.. Nice write of the typical grrrr moment that has you throwing shoes at the door as they run fast cause its the only way to take cover... Oooops, no, she left.. Was he throwing shoes? I remember throwing an ashtray once, one of those big heavy glass ones you never see anymore cause no one smokes, it left a huge dent in the wall, lucky it missed I might have killed him and that would have been a bit awkward to try and explain =)

Nice write but then you always did have a way with words and poetic story telling.
