Prepared

Prepared

A Poem by rubydreamer
"

The birthplace of that twinkle in your eye.

"
When the smell of mountain springs fog the window,
I can faintly see the cloudy day, but still I smile.
It'll only be this way for a little while.
The way the edges of the world in color look softer
Reminds me of a gentle dream I once had.
That I'm not scared anymore makes me glad.

I stop the facet and wipe the soap suds from my fingers.

The garlic is heating in the olive oil,
And though the recipe is far more wholesome
Our home, in truth, is far from such.
But I shouldn't stress myself too much.
Because each day that I think of your arrival
I feel motivated to prepare the way for you.

For the first time in my life, I'm prepared for you.

Author's Note

rubydreamer
I was noticing my maternal instincts kicking in as I was being all domestic in the kitchen just now... and I wrote what was immediately on my mind. This is far from my usual way of writing, and it's very roughly done. But I decided to publish it as it is, unedited. Enjoy. Back to the kitchen.
