The Last Road Out of My HeartA Poem by rubieThere are many more years behind me than ahead There are many more tears than there are smiles There is much more pain than there is joy So what lies ahead on this last road out? What awaits me on that highway to my horizon? I see the tunnel ahead, maw agape Interior unknown I bow humbly to it as I march on I long for its embrace, any embrace But feel only the glee of the damned Waiting to delight in the crush of gentle souls Maybe a miracle sun will appear At just the perfect time To breathe new life into my hopeless heart But this highway cannot forgive my tender soul And my spirit is crushed when I realize that This last road only goes one way. © 2015 rubieReviews
