The Last Road Out of My Heart

The Last Road Out of My Heart

A Poem by rubie

The Last Road Out of My Heart

There are many more years behind me than ahead

There are many more tears than there are smiles

There is much more pain than there is joy

So what lies ahead on this last road out?

What awaits me on that highway to my horizon?

I see the tunnel ahead, maw agape

Interior unknown

I bow humbly to it as I march on

I long for its embrace, any embrace

But feel only the glee of the damned

Waiting to delight in the crush of gentle souls

Maybe a miracle sun will appear

At just the perfect time

To breathe new life into my hopeless heart

But this highway cannot forgive my tender soul

And my spirit is crushed when I realize that

This last road only goes one way.

Even through the darkest of times the Sun is always shining.
Much like this poem, on the surface it seems one is lost, clouded- almost given up, but I can still see the light shining straight ahead.
Beautiful work, Rubie.

Such a poignant but sorrowful write here Rubie. We are probably close to the same age and the images and thoughts herein are quite familiar to me. But because of my upbringing I do know that my eternal future is VERY bright and will be for all eternity as I live it out with my Lord in His Kingdom. Be blessed my friend. You are loved and prayed for. ~Sharon
