Decoys

Decoys

A Poem by rubie

Decoys

I watched a playful pup

have the time of his young life as a

village of prairie dogs played him for a fool

He rushed from mound to mound

only to be distracted by the yips of

another taunting pup

far enough away to be safe

and close enough to tempt

I wondered in my own youth

how often I had run toward

the call of a chimera

only to find myself alone

with an armful of wind

From the vantage of years

and lessons learned

I laughed

at the chase

re-chose the stillness

and the haunting minor chord

that is you

Thank you for your kind review
You always make an indelible impression upon the heart, Rubie. The analogy you made to the playful pup was monumental!

Kelly, you are too kind!
Your wonderful reviews are always welcomed and appreciated.
We all fall victim to those decoys, hoping the next will be the one to suit our youthful needs... but the greater the yip usually leads to greater disappointment and if we allow them to, those prairie dogs will have us chasing ourselves... and you are right, the more years in our rear view mirror the wiser we become, choosing the more laid back sounds of minor chords... beautifully written, Rubie

What a good lesson for all of us. Aiming high is good, but when we realize that all we are running after is not the true color we want the heart to have. It is simply as you skillfully and masterfully put it: a decoy :D
great wit!
