In The Heart's Time

In The Heart's Time

A Poem by rubie

In the Heart’s Time

I can’t seem to wrap

My mind around aging

With its homage to aching joints

And knees that hurt like hell

When the rains come

Friends are falling ill

And the end game is creeping up

Like a silent shadow

On a midnight mission

Yet in my heart

Time moves much more slowly

Than seasons pass

But sunsets seem more urgent

Now that they will be fewer in number

And precious music lifts my spirit

Even higher than ever before

I love more freely now

Unafraid of being vulnerable

To men and women alike

As they journey through my life

Planting memories in my mind

And leaving footprints on my soul

Before moving on to perform

The same miraculous gifting

For the next fortunate soul

So, I choose the heart’s time

As I sit and grow older

Watching shards of sunlight gently caress

The broad-leafed trees of summer

Knowing that when the time does come

I will embrace its arrival

Because I will have known

That ultimate joy that is love.

dear Rubie... to find beauty in the
people we meet... touching their soul
and enhancing our own is a gift of love.
The art of aging is symbolic of a
lovely Rose that in the heart's time
will wilt and fade away, but the
spirit of the Rose will grace
eternity. truly... Pat

I really like the positive and radiant feeling of this poem. Although it is about something that most people would be sad about, you have achieved to shed that thought away and embrace the beauty of the heart that beats with the love that colors and rejuvenates our skin, and makes our wrinkles worth the while. :D

Thank you so much for your review. Much appreciated!
As years pass by our bodies wane but the mind (if unhindered) has the ability to focus more sharply on things that are important like joy, love and ultimately contentment. I liked the gradual movement from the negative effects of ageing on the body to the acceptance of meeting one's final days in loving contentment. Another stellar write, Rubie.

Point humbly taken, FT. Thank you.
there is definitely an urgency in growing older...time moves along much faster, days seem shorter and there is so much we feel we will never accomplish...and we wonder if what we already accomplished really means anything at all.
our innocence wanes...and we feel guilty of not making best use of our time here on earth.

an insightful, purposeful read this one is.

Simply gorgeous, Rubie! Love is the joy we were meant to embrace through the years, along with the priveledge of reading poetry such as this.

"Watching shards of sunlight gently caress
the broad-leafed trees of summer"

...makes my heart heavy, just reading it!
