Color Me Gray

Color Me Gray

A Poem by rubie
"

I just adore a good thunderstorm

"

Color Me Gray

so many shades of gray

peering through

the pewter colored

screen on my window

nature’s wrath

fiercely insistent

angrily unrelenting

cumulous clouds fashion

gun metal dark

at their center

almost blue at edges

that fade into white

charcoal mist hangs

over swaying treetops

and cirrus streaks of pearl

layer upon hoary layer

of slate broken by

patches of light

sleek and leaden

rain falls in torrents

of steel pellets

pounding on defensive roofs

painting my mood

from a palette of mostly

black and white

Aahhh, you paint a beautiful image, dear lady! I was out and about in the car today during a blistering thunderstorm, and I was intimately associated with those clouds you speak of. The interstate had a particularly high, harrowing bridge I had to navigate in almost 0 visibility. Rain was blowing horizontal in front of me, but I looked out the side window and I saw these swirling masses of gray, blue, and pearl malevolently molding themselves in and out. I just wanted to get off the road. Very beautiful poem. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I love the description in this piece and were I a painter I could easily create a masterpiece from such vivid imagery. I like your use of words like 'fiercely...angrily...white...pounding...defensive' as they capture the anger of the storm perfectly. It is wonderful and amazing how a storm can echo the dichotomy of manic and depressive moods; generally I love a storm as I find it rejuvenating, while other times it makes me want to bury my head in the pillows. A great write, Rubie.

The coldness of rain; breeze of winds; fog or mist of clouds & a very twisty spark of indigo amber you've surrounded this poetry with. Very nice. Enjoyable to read. Well, I believe, the love's too grey only when it comes to an end. It's always full of colors but with emptiness either like the voids of clouds. Nice imagery. Well written!

You are most welcome my dear! ~Sharon
the rain can often set a mood...some of us love the rain, love the sound of the pellets hitting the roof...some see rain as depression, cloudy skies...raining on their parade of life.

Nature's wrath is unrelenting...but we can withstand it and embrace it...just as we do the storms of life.

We rarely get thunderstorms here in California, but having lived back east, I remember the frequency of them, particularly in the summer. It was pretty much the norm to be awakened by claps of thunder, scurrying in the middle of the night, trying to close all the windows.

So much here to love..."the pewter colored screen of the window", "charcoal mists hanging over swaying treetops". I could go on, but then I would have the entirety of your poem highlighted in my comment box!

Your writing consists of what I admire, and what I aspire to better myself to. Thank you for taking me there, Rubie!
