Drowning

Drowning

A Poem by Reilly

Sinking
Slower, sinking

It's engulfing me now
I can't breathe

There's so much surrounding me
but none of it gives me the air I need
to breathe

I just want to breathe

I'm sinking

I should have seen it coming

Did I dive in?
or did I fall

Did I crash into the waves
willingly
knowingly
whole hearted-ly

or did I just...
fall.

I'm free falling

I feel the wind beneath my arms
as if to tell every cell in my body to stand back up
as if to tell every cell in my body...

dive in, darling.

And for a moment
time stands still

I'm floating
oh its so relaxing
with no weight
on my shoulders
on my mind

no weight to carry
it's so freeing

but then the moment has passed
and I've crashed.
The water takes over me
and now I am sinking

even deeper still

I gaze up toward the surface
to yesterday

falling was the best part

wasn't it?

.....

But did I jump,
or did you trip me?

funny ending definitely emotions on a ride wether breathless or falling head long nice mix of the two I can relate to both in a negative way once when 12 I think I teased a senior neighbor on the porch with his girlfriend he cleared the steps caught me lifted me arms outstretched and threw me to the ground I landed on my back and I lost my wind all the air knocked out I gasped like a fish until I caught my breath scary lol another time I was on a top bunk with my brother below I fell asleep and fell out of bed while doing so I had a dream I was on an edge of a large drop with rocks below and waves crashing and I fell but in fact I had really fallen never saw myself hit the rocks but man they were approaching as I fell hit the floor so hard it woke up my parents across the house downstairs man was I sore so I can relate lol mines crazy stuff I like your poem

i really like the allegory here...oh someone could be literally drowning...and the speaker describing the feeling and thoughts associated with this...but i do see more...a person who is drowning in life...overwhelmed by pain of lost love...or financial ruin...and how he or she can feel the waters of love lost or of financial ruin drowning them...they are going under...and that surface gets farther and farther away each moment.

this speaks to me of that struggle faced when you are falling for someone, and you flip flop between floating and sinking, which is part of being unsure of things in a new relationship. this is how it feels to me

What thoughtful imagery. I kept imagining a guy who is enraptured by his love and at a loss as to how he got there. His not knowing and yet falling deeper an deeper into love.

I may, of course be terribly wrong in my interpretation. In any case I enjoyed your write.

That is exactly what I was going for! Drowning in our emotions without saying it. Thanks for reading.. read more
