The Blue and the Grey

The Blue and the Grey

A Poem by Rikita Singleton

Fallen angels look over this bloody war,
they cry in sorrow that the nation is torn
they believe in Gettysburg got out of hand,
but in two minutes Lincoln told a speech to honor the dead
so we can appreciate what they fought to believe in
and in the ultimate ending whose going to win
the fallen angels seethe emancipation proclamation ending slavery
so that made the northerners have more bravery
the angels say the southerners are wrong
and that is why they are singing their old union song
the angels say that too many people are dying
that is why you always see them sighing
the union still needed soldiers, so they recruited people by force
and that made things go in the wrong corse
the angels don't know whose going to win,
but everyone needs to repeat for his or hers sins
under the moon the blood will shine through the night
but the fallen angels say on the next horizon
they shall fight
