Your poem truly is a powerful parcel of Zen wisdom, in a wonderful representation of the Haiku form. Mixing Zen with Haiku is the perfect marriage of philosophy and poetic form. I especially liked your line "Children of Infinity." You have really crafted a moving depiction of the creation of life with this poem. Beautifully written, my friend.
A short story for you: I remember my mother hard boiling and peeling an egg like this after we were finished using it for an Easter Egg Hunt. I also remember her quartering peppers one Sunday, and finding a perfectly formed miniature within the larger pepper.
Interesting piece. Things are always more than they seem. Even matter isn't as solid as it appears. Our senses deceive us all the time with everything from optical illusions to philosophical interpretations. Science is no more exact than philosophy in my perspective. Philosophy deals with ideals and imagination. It takes imagination to think outside the box and imagine that the "facts" are not set in stone. There are are no immutable axioms. Physics only pertains to a given set of circumstances and even "reality" can be altered. I believe the mind and heart to operate the same as books and parachutes...in that they only work when they're open.

Not been around WC much and finally commenting on your review. I guess you'll not find this surprising from me, but I strongly disagree with your comment that "Science is no more exact than philosophy in my perspective". There is a big difference. Philosophy is not testable. Science is. And i t is tested, and retested, and it if doesn't stand the test, then it is discarded, What more can you ask if a belief system? All other belief systems ,of which I am aware, do not offer up this test. They simply say "believe". Not good enough for me. i want someone to show me that what they're selling an be substantiated. Unlike anything else, science offers this. In fact, this is a requirement of science. It has to be this way. Do you know of any other knowledge system that makes this requirement? I don't. This is why I am a scientist. Intellectual honesty requires this of me. My father taught me this. it was his greatest gift.
Very interesting Rick...thought provoking for sure...i'm sure through meditation we can find out many things we don't know about ourselves...our mind, body and spirit....Rose
When an egg is within an egg, there is perpetual children of creation, as one egg shall create a new egg which creates a new egg ad infinitum as children of infinity. Mirror in mirror reflects forever and ever as the image would reflect one to the other for all time - the reflection never ending. The philosophy of Zen in your haiku would tell me to look within oneself and see infinity through meditation - there is no end, nor is there a beginning, and I''ll stop there as you know we differ in this view........lol
Best Regards,
Sheila

And I don't think we differ as much as you might think. Yes, as a scientist I try to deal with facts such as there was a beginning to this Universe and there is likely to be an end. But that is just this Universe. Physicists now believe there is so much more to existence. So perhaps I just think the enveloping egg is much larger, but something gives birth to smaller eggs that themselves contain eggs, and all the parts are reflections and pieces of the whole. It is a mesmerizing and awe-filling realization, who's scope exceeds our full comprehension. So while as a physicist I may look at this with more materialism than mysticism, the message is true nonetheless. We as people, the Universe as a whole, simply everything is an egg within and egg.
So what's the most important thing to say about myself? I guess the overarching aspect of my personality is that I am a scientist, an astrophysicist to be precise. Not that I am touting science.. more..
