Anxiety

Anxiety

A Poem by Shygirl

Everything turned sideways as the ship burned to ashes.
The was too much, my face turned bright red, matching that of the fires.
I couldn't breathe. The world looked distorted as if I was looking through a
kaleidoscope with billions of colors and shapes flying by. The vessel
lurched and began to sink. I started to panic. My heart raced faster and faster.
The sky was spinning and the ground was shaking. I almost passed out.

Then I took a deep breath. I n h a l e, e x h a l e. The fires extinguished, the ground steadied,
the sky stopped spinning. I closed my eyes, took another long breath, then opened my
eyes. I was back in the dining room with a man standing on one knee, waiting for an answer.

Some moments just seem to really catch one off their guards and they don't know how to react, so instead of reacting, they panic instead. You interpreted perfectly of how anxiety or a panic attack would occur in this type of situation. I've had a few panic attacks last semester and this was honestly just how they played out. I don't have them much anymore, but they are still there...somewhere inside.
