MY GOD AIN'T SHORT OF CASHA Poem by R. A. MerrittA poem about money grubbing preachersMY GOD AIN’T SHORT OF CASH By R. A. Merritt Do you ever notice the evangelists any day of the week When they're on the television and your attention they do seek They talk about God and Jesus and getting yourself straight with same And say that is their purpose at least that's what they claim But it always seems to come around to money don't you know And they keep asking for it the remainder of the show They talk about prosperity, they talk about great wealth Money God can get you improve your monetary health And I must ask myself what's that got to do with Him If I recall my Gospel great wealth equals sin We all should remember about a camel through a needle's eye He will make it easily before a rich man could even try And they stand there before you dressed to the nines And I've never seen a suit that's oh so very fine They dress like a Rockefeller they eat like "Diamond Jim" And I must ask myself what Bible they been looking in Cause it seems to me at least I'm very sure Jesus He showed compassion, but mostly for the poor It ain't that a rich man can't be a good man don't you know Can't have some empathy for others we're all the same below But this seeming obsession I think they should stop it Cause it makes me think all they want is inside of my pocket Otherwise why bring it up why so much about the green If they could get your folding money they'd no doubt flee the scene And this all makes me angry my teeth I want to gnash Cause like Bono said "My God ain't short of cash!" © 2014 R.
