In 30 years

I've been born

And raised alone

In an emotional storm

 

In 30 years

I've lost a parent

Became shy

And very observant

 

In 30 years

I've gotten good grades

Attended school

In curls and braids

 

In 30 years

I met a boy

Such a mistake

I was just his toy

 

In 30 years

I've had to work

Breaking my back

For another jerk

 

In 30 years

I've been married twice

The cost of a companion

Such a high price

 

In 30 years

I've loved and lost

Life's been hard

NEVER soft

 

In 30 years

I've cried a million tears

Swallowed my pride

And faced a few fears

 

In 30 years

I've never flown

Except in my dreams

When I'm all alone

 

In 30 years

I've done little right

Try to learn as I go

Steer my path toward the light
