Sorrow of Separation

Sorrow of Separation

A Poem by Rosie Brooklin

After two Steel Reserves and a Black and Mild,
Love is all I feel, but only for a while
For I know not what the future holds;
Tomorrow, will my heart be whole?
You need to serve your country.
That much I understand,
but when the nights are cold and I grow old, who will hold my hand?
You sit only a room away without single care,
and yet I miss you with all my soul
and my heart says to beware.
I must support you, as I said I would,
since I am your loving wife,
but I still can not put into words how to end this strife.
Heartfelt letters from far away simply can’t compare
To the warmth and comfort of you being near.
Please do not forget me, amongst the pain of war.
Please come home, I beg of you,
so I can live once more.

I was drunk when I wrote this, so it won’t be as articulate or creative as my other works.

I'm not familiar with your work, so I can't compare this to other works of yours. Some people can get high or drunk & write even better. I think you might be one of these people. But lots of times, drunk writing is drivel. This is definitely not that. I say don't worry about categorizing your work & just play on the page in all the different moods you may experience. This is great writing & your message is very powerful & heartfelt. Normally I'm not a big fan of heartbreak poems, oftentimes predictable. But your poem shows many different layers of such a heartbreak situation & I'm really feeling for this narrator (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

The hardest war is the war being at home.
The unknown is always the most frightening.

I never drink and write just for that reason. However I do feel you in this poem. It get through. Pain of seperation is hard. But in the end it does make you stronger. Time heals all.
