![]() Dear AndyA Poem by Rosie Brooklin![]() My therapist suggested that I write about my trauma... here we go.![]()
I have a confession: I lied.
I told you that you would never break me, and that I was merely bent, curved like a bridge to recovery or a rainbow after a thunderstorm. But the truth is that when I heard you say "People destroy beautiful things" I never imagined you were referring to me. In my innocence, I thought I was human and not an object for you to tamper with, but time has shown me my mistake. Just as my wrists and ankles were bound, so is my heart, constricted and damaged by those tiny guitar strings, which I was too weak to break. As you sliced my flesh, you tore my freedom as well. I can't pretend to have the value of humanity when I am merely a crudely made effigy. In the deepest recesses of my marble mind, I have contracted a parasite. It bears the face of a blue-eyed boy and burns through my entire spine. Mr. Parasite, why did I have to be your experiment? I am by no means a good woman, but I have loved more than I have hurt. You thought you had rendered me incapable of the first, and far too familiar with the latter, but I want you to know that I've met a man, not to be confused with the child that you are. A bona fide gentlemen with more love in his heart than the stars that are scattered across sky. And you've injured him, as well While all I want is to be his shelter, I can not promise that I will be stable. My foundations crumble on a nightly basis and I worry that my broken ruins might never be enough, or worse: They are too much. For four years, you have plagued me, but this is where it ends. I can not allow your memory to hurt the man that I love. Whiskey and cigarettes haven't been enough and I don't know where else to find medicine. Here's to the journey. Goodbye, Parasite. Find another host.
