Lie To Me

Lie To Me

A Poem by Roshan Nair
"

This is a piece I've written for love gone away..

"

Say it to me once more that you love me,

I ask you again that you hold and console me,

That this world is just cruel and that I am unique,

They’ll not get it even if they tried.

Lie to me, that you will love me tonight,

Lie to me, that you we’re waiting all day to see me,

Lie to me, that you long my eyes as I long for your lips,

Lie to me, that you want me to lie besides you.

Your lies will last me this one more night,

The lights don’t grow dimmer till I hear your sweet song,

I surrender my soul to your glances, to keep safe in longing,

The dawn has never been a friend, cruel and blinding.

Lie to me, that your kisses will wake me up,

Lie to me, that you’ll see me to the door as I leave,

Lie to me that you’ll call me if its all going alright,

Lie to me, that you want me come back early today.

Your days seem more magical than mine can dream,

The boughs of the buildings were ours to perch,

Like birds of season coming together and call to one another,

I’d hold you so tender in my arms as you’d say you’d be ok.

Lie to me, that you’ll not leave marks when you go,

Lie to me, that this meant as much to you as it was to me,

Lie to me, that those embraces were all that was real,

Lie to me, that each touch of your palm said I was alright.

The day has ended again, there’s an even flow to the lights,

The cars move in melody, their lights yellow and red play their games.

This window is my friend again, the worlds eye into our life as it was,

It came to talk now that you’re just a shadow in my tomorrow,

and the saviour of my yesterdays:

Truth be told, you had the best you could get,

Truth be told, you didn’t lose the love you never had,

Truth be told, your soul is lonelier tonight but let the glass get light,

I’ll lie to you this once...she did really think your eyes had everything she needed,

Goodnight

Awesome work Roshan! You've got magic in your words. I specially liked the manner in which you've organised it..Leading 4 lines that's got a humble pleading followed by next 4 lines that vocalizes a sarcasm filled beseech "Lie to me.." and the pattern keeps alternating. And finally the amazing landing. Nice read:)

I can feel the emotion in your words and tell you wrote this from your heart. The repetition of Lie to Me makes the words so very powerful. One of your very best that I have read so far Roshan. Great writing!

This is simply WOW!

The subtle duality of every other stanza was very delightful to read. The concluding stanza was amazing. The whole poem flowed smoothly like a song. Outstanding work, Roshan Nair! Kudoz to you! Thanks for sharing!

Roshan, I really like the flow of this poem, the way it is set up. The writing is superb, maybe the one I like the most of all your stuff I've read. Repeating, "Lie to me..." four times, every other refrain, is a very good technique to pull the entire thing together and visually hold the readers attention. Very well done! And you didn't even rhyme in it...could you be on to something? take care...dan

It is pure emotional pieces like this that I really enjoy.. I enjoy writing them, and I enjoy reading them.. your heart is dripping from each line beautifully.. I loved some of the phrasing throughout this piece.. could feel the magic of the moment that had your heart longing... I will say there were a few spots where I "stumbled".. will share my thoughts and opinions (for what it is worth)...

I enjoyed the repetition, but would have probably constructed it a little different.. (again, just my opinion).. but would have maybe started the stanza with the repetition, and then went on to list the ways..

"Lie to me, that you long my eyes as I long your lips,"... here I would have added either "for" in front of the object of longing, or a verb... maybe...
"Lie to me, that you long for my eyes as I long for your lips".. or... "Lie to me, that you long to gaze into my eyes, as I long to taste your lips,"...

"Lie to me that you’ll call me if its all going alright," think you need an apostrophe on "it's" as it is a contraction it+is=it's :)

"This window is my friend again, the worlds eye into our life as it was,".. again.. think you need an apostrophe here... "world's eye"...

"It came to talk now that you’re just a shadow in my tomorrow,
and the saviour of my yesterdays:"... I love the idea of this and the wording, except stumbled a little in the beginning.. it may just be me... I dunno.. would probably have said something like... "It came to be that now you are just a shadow in my tomorrow and the saviour of my yesterdays:..

lovely, heartfelt write my friend.. well done.

Awesome work Roshan.... I am a big fan anytime I read a piece that is pure emotion from the heart. I really enjoyed it. I love the way you ask for the person to lie to you and tell you all these things that will make you feel good and happy, then at the end turn around and speak the truth back. Awesome work buddy I am glad you shared this.
