Clouds

Clouds

A Poem by Roshan Nair
"

More often than not, in life, we are left more touched and moved for life by people and things that are ephemeral, present for a few precious moments or days ,even years, any of it seeming too short

"

Can you be here a minute longer?

There’s only one more number to play.

The country isn’t running anywhere.

If we wish, We can find our own way.

But we are all but leavers here.

These clouds they play to the chimes,

To the way the old ships steer.

My love has rested upon this clover,

We caught up before spring arrived that day.

The season seemed like it’s for the lasting.

If we will, We can carve out our own bay.

But we are dawn’s deceivers here.

The speck of mist has called my love to the sky,

To become one with the rain that washes us clear.

What train can we take to go farther?

Memories got no feet nor feathers nor say,

They seep down and be taken where you go.

If we dream, We can paint this picture as we may,

But we are false receivers here,

To call the coming into plains of shadows,

Of clouds that pass with no man to fear.

I’ll not leave this rope waiting stronger,

Will you hold on to my sounds made of clay?

They are for you to keep from now.

If we dare, We can climb up, in known lands to lay.

But we are only destiny’s chasers here,

Your touch becomes the breeze, your smiles the passing rays,

With no face familiar, the ephemeral becomes most real.

The poem left me with good places and thoughts. I like poetry that open doors to places in the reader's mind. This poem did. Destiny, seasons and lasting places and people keep us solid. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Very good poem, Roshan! I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of poetry, but it is gems like this one that make me turn my head every once in a while. The imagery is very god and your vocabulary used is also very descriptive and it conveys a wonderful picture and flawlessly gets your point across. Especially this line:

But we are only destiny’s chasers here,

Your touch becomes the breeze, your smiles the passing rays,

With no face familiar, the ephemeral becomes most real.

Awesome work, keep it up!

Clouds can be obstructing and a wall behind which feelings can hide or they can be beneficial in the form of needed rain. What type of clouds are above this day? ...or this one? 3 days ago my clouds were fluffy white, today angry and dark. Knowing how much one can control the outcome is humbling, or self-defeating, as the case may be. Roshan, may all of your clouds be fluffy balls of cotton candy...with wings. take care...dan

Exquisite. I loved the way you've described certain things in this one. This one made me think, emotional as well as quite meaningful at the same time.

"More often than not, in life, we are left more touched and moved for life by people and things that are ephemeral, present for a few precious moments or days ,even years, any of it seeming too short " - Agreed, but that is how life works. These lines reminded me of what Marian Keyes said about life - "What is life but fleeting moments of happiness strung together on necklace of despair?".
Some memories are too valuable to let go. We hang on to them until our Time comes calling.

A really good write :) Neatly penned.

This is a beautiful poem Roshan! The metaphors you use are rich in meaning, yet at the same time they create a wondrous place in my mind. I love this place that you describe with clouds, chimes, old ships, a bay, and clover on a spring day. I know this place in real life. One day standing on my favorite bluff above the sea, I looked out at the sky, clouds, water, and mountains in the distance, and it was like I wasn't looking at this place, but that I was "in" it. Your poem creates an almost similar feeling, as if I am in a beautiful place, which feels not like a painting, but more like a mystical place! :)

I love your message about us being touched and moved by people and things that are often times only present for a few precious moments, or for a short time. And your poem so beautifully reflects that message. Roshan, this poem is well written, and awesome!! :) :)

Thank you so much Ana for that kind review, m glad you liked the feel of the piece :)
What powerful wording, Roshan. You never cease to impress me with your words. You are a one of a kind poet, and have this unique way of thinking and constructing. You seem to think deeply about things on a whole new level. Your work is actually starting to get a little hard to unravel; it wasn't easy to read, hence why you impressed me.

I like how you chose 'clouds' to describe those people who drift away from our lives. They stick around for a bit, making life beautiful, and then are gone with the wind.

This read was something else. I enjoyed every word of it.

Thank you for sharing such different thoughts!

The feeling of transience..of such fleetingness....of uncertainty... you painted it incredibly well. Your words never fail to have a multi-textured meaning to them. There are so many little cute quirks everywhere.. the country isn't running anywhere..the clouds playing the chimes to the way the old ships steer...this is a complex poem indeed!
