The Crossing

The Crossing

A Poem by Roshan Nair
"

This one is a piece I had written for someone close to me who was trapped in a sorry and desolate life for long, this is what I wrote when there was finally hope visible at the end of tunnel for her.

"

How did you get so far on this day?

I see you’ve turned slightly grey, in your eyes.

Step towards me, fill yourself afresh,

I know you’ve seen this day before the morning cries.

It’s not time to back down today,

There won’t be another turn for miles ahead.

Wash your feet in this flowing stream,

There won’t be a need for signs of all that bled.

The piper’s no longer the master of you

Decide which end you want stronger.

The debts are no longer following you.

You’re clean from every corner.

The directions are yours for the taking,

For any wind you follow will give you quarter.

Dream of a home on the road you’re on,

You don’t need to confide and reside, just decide.

Can you hear the distance saying you’re near,

You are at home in the inside of the world outside.

Forget the poison that plagued your past,

Let me pour this water on your eyes tonight.

Clear the dirt that sketches shadows which aren’t,

Let me wake you to the journey without yesterdays fight.

There are no shackles on your feet,

There is no sound from the afar calling.

Fresh as you come, look who’s here to meet,

Does it matter if we’re headed for another falling?

Feel the breeze brush against your face,

No one sent it here to meet you.

It’s telling you’re onto the path you should trace,

No one could’ve marked it but you,

You’re clean from every corner.

The directions are yours for the taking,

For any wind you follow will give you quarter.

***

See the lights go up on the city,

We can stop if you want for a while,

The time we have won is ours now really,

Let’s just be here a while to watch the night smile.

I like to read such emotional pieces than reading about heart break ones, I mean this very well expressed and at the same time sounds like a wisdom of death, the virtue of life - getting away from someone is not easy but can't stop them. You can only preserve what is left, forever.

Wouldn't it be easy to just pour water on our past mistakes to make them just disappear. For most of us, it is not ever that easy. Valentine

It's true everyone who goes through a rough time needs some words of wisdom and encouragement and hope but wrapped in love and compassion. This one proves to be bang on :)

Thanks sakshi.. you've summed up the entire piece perfectly. :) glad you liked it!
not only does this piece express a depth of wisdom and comfort, but it shows such compassion and concern for a friend.. you have balanced this beautifully and took us on the journey.. allowing us to experience the struggle, the strength, and the survival.. I really enjoyed.. two lines that hit me the most were:

"Dream of a home on the road you’re on,"...... yes!...

"Forget the poison that plagued your past,".... easier said than done, but necessary..

well done, can't wait to read more..

This is fantastic. Beautiful and elegant. This one did tug at my heart strings.

Good friends are hard to find. Now-a-days, nobody has time to sit down and assure his / her friend that everything is going to be ok. I can actually relate to this one. I have a friend who has been in a tight spot for quite some time now. From here, all I can do is pray and assure her that everything is going to be alright.

I really don't have words to say! This is amazing! It is so full of feelings and feelings that tell me that you were trying to save someone! Trying to tell them, make them realise, that the place where they stand right now and the path they take from here on, is theirs to decide. Really, beautifully written! No, wonder you are a poet! Thanks for sharing! :)

Roshan, Your grammar is just fine and this piece is even better. You tell your friend that the sky is the limit, that all signs point to hopeful and the worst is over. This is a lesson in encouragement for your dear friend and it rings so true the way you have worded the hope, the future promise and the street signs pointing the way to a smoother path, a brighter tomorrow. This is excellent, my friend! take care...dan
