Epilogue

Epilogue

A Chapter by Rose of Gondor

He stood, hidden behind a pillar. His hood was drawn over his head, hiding half of his face. It was essential that he was not seen or recognized. He watched the carriage as it went past. It was time to move.

He slinked along the dark streets, his black cloak an easy camouflage in the dark of night. It would be like he wasn’t even there. He followed the carriage as it went down to the dock. There, he watched as Lord Hsia boarded the ship. And then he sneaked past the sailors and into Lord Hsia’s private dining room. That was the first place Lord Hsia would go, he knew. And that was precisely why he wanted to go there.

He hid himself behind the heavy, red brocade curtains just as the door opened. Lord Hsia stepped into view. There was streaks of mud across his face, and his hair was dripping wet, but he looked the same as always.

He wondered if he should step out…

“I know you’re there,” Lord Hsia’s voice was coldly calm.

From his view point behind the curtains he could tell that Lord Hsia was holding a drawn dagger.

“I mean no harm,” he stepped out into the light, and threw back his hood.

“Prince Rin?” Surprise dripped from Lord Hsia’s voice.

Rin gave him a bitter grin. “Yes, it’s me, Hsia. But it’s hard to tell. These days have changed me.”

“You look much the same. I trust that you are well?”

“I am, but my purpose here today is not discussing my welfare. I didn’t kill my father.”

“Why should I believe you?”

Rin merely shrugged.

A grin crept onto Lord Hsia’s face. He had an idea. A wonderful idea that would lift all the dirty work from his shoulders.

“Well, Rin, I believe that that matter is straightened out. I will talk with the emperor for this matter. Meanwhile, would you like to stay?” Hsia tried to contain the urge to smirk. He had found the perfect way to lay complete blame on someone else.

Rin’s mouth set into a hard line, but he gave a firm nod of his head.

Hsia grinned. Wide. Malicious. But Rin didn’t notice.

Author's Note

Rose of Gondor
wow. I'm wayyyy better describing Rin and how he acts through Mayflower's POV....grrr, I suck at third person. Sorry if he's a little out of character. Oh well. This is the last chapter of The Pearl of the Gods!!

Does Aiko live? Will Rin realize Hsia is using him in time? What will happen to Mayflower? Will they get the pearl of air back before Mayflower's papa can use its power for evil? And why are all the gods and goddesses disappearing? You will find out in the next installment, The Runes of the Earth. :D I will be posting that later!!! Sometime later, that is....lol....

Hope you enjoyed. Thank you to Crystal Rome Marie and Rachi52 for having stuck with me right up till the end. I hope you like this. :D Terrible cliffies in the last two chapters, but that's why I made them terrible. Because they're the last two chapters. I didn't want to make anyone mad at me. :D
